In 2009, Raimi started working on two television projects: an adaptation of the novel A Visit from the Goon Squad by writer/director Carl Reiner and starring Henry Winkler and a television series called The Book of Daniel, based on the novel of the same name by Robert McKee. Raimi was also developing a film version of The Evil Dead with partners Campbell, Tapert, and Bruce Campbell Productions. The four met to talk about the project, and it looked like they would make a deal, but on September 27, 2009, Raimi announced that he was instead concentrating on the television projects. He said, "The interaction and interplay of those characters was really great and I want to explore that again but with The Evil Dead on television."[24] However, Campbell and Tapert's television production company — Evil Angel Entertainment — was acquired by Lionsgate Films in January 2010, giving the company access to Raimi's films. As a result, the director also had a greater say in what he wanted for The Evil Dead television series.
"It's one of the most classic horror stories ever told, and it's one of my favorite films of all-time," Raimi offered. "I love the fact that it inspired me to direct a bunch of movies. It's also a good role for me, as an audience member, to hear what Stan [Mercedes] thinks of the movie. Stan's probably the big screen critic in the town. He's a big comic book collector of the '70s."
"It's a great story with great characters and a cool premise," Raimi added. "Obviously the Deadites are really cool characters. But I think the audience connection to them was the key to making the film." d2c66b5586
