An Indo-Soviet cultural and technical exchange agreement between the USSR and the India was signed by Nina L. Shtange, widow of the Soviet ambassador in India, and Sushma Swaraj, then Minister of State for External Affairs, on 18 December 1984 at the yantra (emphasis on the other meaning of the word) in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. The agreement was first signed in Kolkata on October 17, 1984 by Dr. R. Venkataraman, then Minister of State for External Affairs, and Alexander Yakovlev, then Moscow's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador. The exchange of thirty two lectures and several joint projects will include signing of trade assurances (April 16, 1988) and exchange of cultural, technical and agricultural experts as well as students-in-training (May 28, 1988). However, the exchange of large numbers of students was not realized.[citation needed]
Joint works were edited by Bengali authors such as Jadunath Sarkar, Manjula Anjaiah, Gorakh Sarkar, Utpal Dutt, G. D. Bidyadhar Chakravarty, Tarapada Mukherjee and Taraknath Dasgupta. Tamil authors such as V. R. Ramaswamy, K. V. Srinivas, T. S. Rajan, Annamalai Chettiar, Dasarathi Pillai, V. R. Ramarathinam and Kovai Kumarasamy were also inspired to write in Tamil. d2c66b5586
