Oh the serial number stamping is really misleading. They didn't stamp the frame with a specific model number on the frame, they stamped the frame number on the seat tube where it was glued. That means that all bike that would have the same five numbers stamped on the frame had the same frame number. Of coarse you can add the year and model on after that. That's how you make the horsepower. If you have a 0.006 headtube restoration, it is a frame that was built in 1996. That's the year that I started restoring frames. Now it is the year that the serial numbers are on. The year they were manufactured.
If you look at the first photo you will notice that the rear end has a little stamp "GWE 30" on the fly and the front end has a little stamp "GT 0". This means it's a GT "Spitfire" it was built in Taiwan in the month of "May" in the year "1998" and has a "GWE 30" rear end. I don't know how many of those frames were actually made so I have no idea of the distribution like 007.
I think you are addressing the right bike, it is in fact a Spitfire. I've seen this one a few times, I'd call it a GT Spitfire. It has a gt front end, 5/7. I think yours is a bottom end model and he is correct. it has the stamping on it. You have the m in June. The frame has the number G 01800016 on the seat tube and the number 6 on the seat stay. It is glued up and ready to go. Some frames were never built. The small stamp "GWE 30" is on the rear end. It says the frame is a GT.
Mmmmm... no model number on the Bmx frame. There is no date code on the bottom bracket either. Should I break off the front forks and look under them for something, just to verify they don't say "MV" or ''Powerlite'' or anything?
It looks like a Powerlite Bmx serial number to me... especially since it is rubber stamped on the underside of the handlebars. It is black and looks like it is in a straight line from the head of the yoke to the bottom bracket. d2c66b5586
