The automatic transfer switches were manufactured by Pneumatic Power Products, Inc., of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Pneumatic Power Products, Inc. has notified the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) of the recall. Consumers should contact Pneumatic Power Products, Inc., at 800-221-6732, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, for further information. Consumers can also visit the CPSC’s website for more information on recalled products at www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/Recalls/product_list.asp?action=show&domain=GENERAC&subdomain=GENERAC&productID=EL9717&start=0, or CPSC’s toll-free number at 1-800-638-2772. CPSC will take appropriate action if the automatic transfer switches are in the home.

This recall was initiated after Generac received report of an incident of smoke damage to the generator and the automatic transfer switch. The automatic transfer switch was allegedly replaced by Generac during the initial repair or service visit.

The EL9717 and EL9717FPW automatic transfer switches are two-position, three-way, manual, transfer switches. Generac is recalling electronic products that were manufactured and sold from February 2006 to June 2010. The affected products have two-position, three-way, manual transfer switches. The switches are mounted in the panel and are used to select which circuit is controlled by the transfer switches. The transfer switches and circuit breakers are not interchangeable with other Generac products. Generac is also notifying distributors of affected distributors of the recalled product.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Pneumatic Power Products, Inc., to schedule a free repair of the product. Generac will notify customers of the free repair schedule.

The Generac Portable Generator recall involves 6500 watt and 8000 watt Generac portable generators with unit type numbers XT8000E, XT8000EFI, GP6500, GP6500E, GP8000E and HomeLink 6500E portable generators, and DR models PRO 6500M and PRO 6500E portable generators. The Generac portable generator models below are included in the recall. Generac is asking its customers and potential customers to stop using and return the recalled products.

The recalled generators were sold at Generac dealers nationwide and online at www.generac.com/shop, and include the following model and serial numbers listed in Table 1. The unit type is identified on the product label. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label on the product.
